The Best Summer Fun Ideas in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is a great place to live (or visit) most of the year, but summer is particularly special. Because of the fabulous weather, families can choose from many summer fun activities like outdoor concerts and movies, festivals and free events. Here are a few of our favorite things for families to do in Los Angeles during the summer.

Check out all of the amazing things to do in Los Angeles in the summer!

Griffith Observatory, Disneyland, Venice Beach, Hollywood Bowl and kids running bases at Dodger Stadium

See an Outdoor Concert – Do you love music? Being outside with friends and family? Then LA is the place to be. Families can go to a Sound of Music sing-along at the Hollywood Bowl or enjoy free weekly concerts on the Santa Monica Pier. If you want to shop and eat while you listen to music, families can enjoy free concerts at The Grove and Hollywood & Highland.

Catch a Dodger Game –  There is nothing like eating a Dodger Dog and watching a ball game with the kids on a sunny day at Dodger Stadium. Not only can you cheer on the home team, but you can celebrate special events with fireworks and giveaways. On a couple of special days, kids can run the bases after the game and meet some of the players.

Head to the Beach – When it’s sweltering inland you can always drive to one of the many beautiful beaches in Los Angeles and beyond. You can bring bikes and ride along the ocean or rent surfboards or paddle boards and experience the water. Arrive early with a picnic and spend the day looking out at the ocean and you’ll never want to leave.

Take in a Museum – Did you know that the world’s only active ice age excavation site is right in the middle of LA? Or that the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is the largest museum in the west? Or that there are museums that celebrate African American, Mexican, and Japanese Culture? There is a museum in Los Angeles for your family’s every interest.

Visit an Amusement ParkDisneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Universal Studios, Magic Mountain and Legoland are in the LA area and, if possible, you should try to see them all.  Make sure to google what deals are offered for Southern California residents or what kind of passes you can get to multiple parks. Most of the parks offer some kind of deal in the summer.

Go on a Hike – There are too many great hikes to name, but visitors and locals alike should make a point to hike out to the Hollywood Sign. It’s strenuous, but worth the sweat when you take a family picture at the top.
